sharing

found in THE WRITERS BOOK OF HOPE by ralph keyes (thanks to a "writer friend" for passing along)

we writers and readers do so love quotes...

"on those days or mornings when you feel worst, when you think everything is hopeless, that nothing will happen -- sometimes the best things happen." walker percy

"i have no talent. it's just the question of working, of being willing to put in the time." graham greene (one of my very favorite authors)

"i am still encouraged to go on. i wouldn't know where else to go." e.b. white

and from a friend who lives far away:
"REFUSE to lose."

Cindy,
Those quotes bless me today. Thanks. You wrote me a while back after finding your first novel on my website. Well, I just read Salt Garden and oh my . . . I tried to find the email address you'd written me on to tell you how I felt after finishing your book, but I guess the addy got lost when I transferred computers. Lost several out of my email book, don't know why.

Anyway, I just have to tell you how I felt about Salt Garden, so I guess I'll do it here.:o)

I found myself stopping and repeating certian thoughts or phrases over and over. Thinking about them. Enjoying the way you wove them together. Especially thoughts about grace and pain. I may have to buy my own copy and read it again and mark it up. (Don't think the library would appreciate it in theirs, but alas, such is my budget these days--more suited to libraries than bookstores.)

Your book leaves me thinking about grace, pursuing passions, fighting through pain, and the mystery of God and of prayer.

It makes me wish we could be friends, for if you share these places in fiction, what must you be like in real life.

It left me longing to grow up as a writer. To learn to express the stuff inside.

Thank you, Cindy. So much. Don't stop--writing, growing, stretching, asking . . . being you.

Cindy--I'm almost embarrassed to post this after going on and on the other night, but I blogged about Salt Garden and thought you might be interested in reading it. I discovered why it haunted me so--it's all about grace.

Anyway, here's the permalink for that post:

I'll recommend it on my website next time I update.

Blessings!
